Everglades Fieldtrip 12/14

Today I had the pleasure to take my students to Everglades National Park.

With the dedication of Everglades National Park in 1947, a new precedent was set in the growing conservation movement. For the first time in American history, a large tract of wilderness was permanently protected not for its scenic value, but for the benefit of the unique diversity of life it sustained. A plethora of habitats found within the Everglades Ecosystem supports as many animal and species not found anywhere else in the world. While nine distinct habitats have been identified, the landscape remains dynamic. Ecosystems remain in a constant state of flux, subject to the elements of south Florida.

My students studied four out of the nine habitats found in the Everglades National Park and consequently had the pleasure of exploring them hands on today. I was impressed by all of the knowledge they gained by this incredible experience!

Thanksgiving Feast - November 15th

On Thursday, November 15th, 2012, the 5th grade classes will be feasting together as one big happy family, but I will need your help in order to make it happen. I would like to make the theme a “Nutritious and Delicious Thanksgiving” where homemade food is shared and appreciated. We are asking parents to bring in different types of "traditional and specialty" dishes, paper goods, and desserts for the children and parents (those who can make it) to enjoy. I will also need 4-6 parents/volunteers to help out with the set up of the food and tables and also the clean up. Please sign up below for something to contribute and let me know if you will be able to attend and help out.
